College Games of the Week: Alabama vs. Florida and Missouri vs. Oklahoma

The two biggest games of the week have got to be the SEC Championship and the Big 12 Championship.  The winner between Alabama and Florida will most likely be heading to the National Championship, while Oklahoma can seal its own trip to the big game with a win over Missouri.

The #1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide comes into this weekend undefeated yet are still considered the underdog.  The Florida Gators have been on fire following their one loss this season, winning each of their last seven games by at least four touchdowns.  This is shaping up to be one of the greatest conference championships of all time.

Tied for first place in the Big 12 South with Texas and Texas Tech, the Oklahoma Sooners earned their trip to the Big 12 championship by placing ahead of both of those teams in the BCS rankings.  They just need to avoid an upset at the hands of the Missouri Tigers for a likely trip to the BCS Championship.  Missouri lost to Oklahoma in last year’s Big 12 Championship thus ending their hopes for a BCS title, and they would love to return the favor.

College Football Game of the Week – #2 Texas Tech at #5 Oklahoma

It’s another huge Big 12 game when the Texas Tech Red Raiders head to Norman to take on the Oklahoma Sooners this Saturday.

Texas Tech is looking to clinch the Big 12 South Division title with a win and achieve an 11-0 record for the first time ever.  Prior to last week’s bye, the Red Raiders have had three impressive victories against Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma State. 

Oklahoma has quietly been maintaining their spot near the top of the BCS rankings.  They have scored atleast 35 points in all of their games this season, with their only loss coming to Texas in October.  Since that loss, the Sooners have averaged an incredible 57.3 points and 590.8 yards a game.

College Football Game of the Week – #25 South Carolina at #4 Florida

It’s another SEC match-up in our game of the week when the South Carolina Gamecocks take on the Florida Gators on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville.

The Florida Gators clinched the SEC East and a trip to the SEC championship game last week with a win over Vanderbilt.  Although one of their season’s goals has been met, they are now concentrating on getting three more wins to stay in the hunt for the national championship.  They have won five straight since losing to Ole Miss in September.

The South Carolina Gamecocks have won six of their last seven and are back in the rankings for the first time in several months.  The Gamecocks are hoping to finish strong with two more wins in their regular season.  After alternating his two quarterbacks nearly every other play last week against Arkansas, Coach Spurrier promises that both will see action again this Saturday against the Gators.

College Football Game of the Week – #1 Alabama at #16 LSU

We can’t wait for this weekend’s big game when the Alabama Crimson Tide head to Death Valley to take on the LSU Tigers.

The #1 ranked Crimson Tide can secure the SEC West and a trip to the SEC title game with a win against the Tigers.  This game also marks the return of Coach Nick Saban to Baton Rouge.  Saban led LSU to a 2003 BCS championship before leaving for the NFL and then eventually ending up at SEC rival Alabama.  Although both coaches are trying to downplay this story line, you can bet the 92,000+ fans at Death Valley will make their feelings about Coach Saban known.

The Tigers must have a win this week if they have any hopes of reaching the SEC title game.  They have struggled against SEC rivals in the past few weeks, experiencing big losses against Florida and Georgia.  LSU has beaten the Crimson Tide in their last five meetings, however, and will be looking to their running game to continue that streak.

College Football Game of the Week – #1 Texas at #7 Texas Tech

Another big one in the Big 12 this weekend as two undefeated teams meet.  The #1 Texas Longhorns head to Lubbock to take on the #7 Texas Tech Red Raiders.

This is the Longhorn’s fourth straight game against a team ranked 11th or better.  In their last three games, they have taken down Oklahoma, Missouri, and Oklahoma State.  This may be their final big test on the way to a National Championship, as the Red Raiders are their last ranked opponent of the season.

The Red Raiders are enjoying their highest ranking in 32 years and their first 8-0 start since 1976.  The road ahead remains tough for them however, as Texas Tech still has to face Oklahoma State and Oklahoma after this run-in with the Longhorns.

College Football Game of the Week – #3 Penn State at #9 Ohio State

This week we’re featuring a game that will likely decide the Big Ten title as #3 Penn State Nittany Lions head to Columbus to take on the #9 Ohio State Buckeyes.

Penn State is looking to break a 10-game road losing streak against ranked opponents and also get a win in Columbus for the first time since 1978.  The Nittany Lions looked great against Michigan last week, beating them 46-17 after having lost nine straight against the Wolverines in previous years.

Ohio State could prove to be hard to beat though.  Against ranked opponents, the Buckeyes have won 12 of their last 13 conference home games.  They had an easy time defeating Michigan State last weekend by a score of 45-7.

Can Penn State remain undefeated and continue their quest for the Big Ten title and possible National Championship?  Or will Ohio State continue their impressive play and get a sixth straight victory since their loss at USC?  Take our poll and let us know what you think.

College Football Game of the Week – #11 Missouri at #1 Texas

This is the third week in a row that we’ve featured a Big 12 match-up in our game of the week, but how can we help it when each of these games carries such weight in the quest for a national championship bid. This Saturday, #11 Missouri Tigers take on the #1 Texas Longhorns in Austin.

Texas had an incredible game last week, knocking then #1 Oklahoma out of the top spot with a decisive 45-35 win.  That was their first big test of the season, and they passed with flying colors.  This week, the Longhorns look to prove that they deserve that #1 ranking.

Missouri is still hoping to win the Big 12 North despite struggling last week in their first loss of the season.  Quarterback Chase Daniels is looking to redeem himself after throwing 3 interceptions in the second half against Oklahoma State.

College Football Game of the Week – #5 Texas at #1 Oklahoma

It’s the Red River Shootout this weekend as the Texas Longhorns take on the Oklahoma Sooners at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.

This annual game is always highly anticipated and even more so this season as both Texas and Oklahoma sit at 5-0 coming into this crucial Big 12 game.

Oklahoma is ranked #1 for the first time since their 2003 season and have outscored opponents 248-69 in their first five games. Leading the team is quarterback Sam Bradford, who has already thrown for 1665 yards and 18 touchdowns this season.

This is the first time Texas has started out the season undefeated in the first five games since their national championship season of 2005. Under new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, the Longhorns have only given up five touchdowns so far.

College Football Game of the Week – #4 Missouri at Nebraska

Let’s visit the Big 12 this Saturday where the Nebraska Huskers will be hosting the #4 Missouri Tigers.  The Tigers have a National Championship on their minds, while the Huskers hope to play the spoiler.

Quarterback Chase Daniel has led the Missouri Tigers to a 4-0 record so far this season.  Their offense is on fire, ranking second in the nation in both scoring and total offense.  What may be fresh on their minds coming off their bye week, however, is that they haven’t defeated the Huskers in Nebraska since 1978.  That’s 15 losses in a row when playing on the Huskers’ field.

Bo Pelini, Nebraska’s first-year head coach, says his team’s goal will be to keep the Tigers off the score board.  The Huskers were not able to do that last season when Chase Daniels threw for 401 yards and 2 touchdowns at Missouri.  But with their streak of 15 home victories against the Tigers spurring them on, maybe the Huskers will be the team bringing the big upset this weekend.

College Football Game of the Week – #8 Alabama at #3 Georgia

It’s another great SEC match-up this weekend with #8 Alabama Crimson Tide taking on the #3 Georgia Bulldogs.  Both teams are at 4-0 with dreams of an SEC Championship and a National Championship on their minds.

Georgia’s success has surprised no one as they started this season with the #1 ranking.  They have taken care of business each week, including a big win last Saturday against Arizona State.

Alabama began this year ranked #24 but have risen in the ranks each week with victories against Clemson, Tulane, Western Kentucky, and Arkansas.

Can second-year coach Nick Saban lead the Crimson Tide in an upset victory over the Bulldogs?  Or will Georgia continue to roll in their quest for the ultimate prize, a BCS National Championship?  Take our poll and let us know what you think.
