Thoughts and Predictions on the 2008 NFL Season

This is a guest post on the upcoming NFL season by Chase, our 12 year old football statistician and 2005 Fantasy Football Champion.

Last year gave us one of the wackiest football seasons ever. Who would have thought the Patriots would go undefeated in the regular season, that the Giants would win the Super Bowl over the undefeated Patriots, or that Brett Favre would come out of retirement and become a New York Jet.

I think this will be another exciting season for the NFL. Here are 3 games I recommend watching this season.

  • #3 The Indianapolis Colts at the San Diego Chargers, week 12. The Colts always have trouble handling the Chargers. The Chargers seem to be bad luck for the Colts.
  • #2 The New York Jets vs the New England Patriots, week 2 & 11. When these 2 teams play it’s going to be an intense matchup. These 2 teams are going to become even bigger rivals. Favre and Brady. You can’t miss it!
  • #1 The New England Patriots at the San Diego Chargers, week 6. Lots of people think this is the Charger’s year, and I mean, who wouldn’t? Last year they had a great season and they made some pretty good draft picks. Fullback Jacob Hester is a rookie, but I think he will make a big impact on the team. If you watched LSU last season you should know what he is capable of doing.

I have 2 breakout teams this season…the New Orleans Saints and the Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders have a lot of young players like Darren McFadden and JaMarcus Russell. I’m not saying they will win the Super Bowl or anything like that, just that they will do a lot better than last year now that Russell is more familiar with everything.

I think the Saints will do as well as they did in 2006. They have a few more playmakers on the team. I don’t know what happened last year, but I think they will do better this season.

A player to watch is Adrian Peterson. He had an outstanding rookie season and who knows what he could do in the future.

There is a lot to watch for this season, and I think it will be a tough and competitive season for every team. Here’s how I think the playoffs will end up:

Brett Favre Retires – We’ll Miss You!

If you’re a regular reader of this blog. then you already know how much we love Brett Favre. Our post from this past August, Brett Favre: For the Love of the Game, spells out exactly how we feel.

Little did we know as we wrote that post during the NFL Preseason, what an incredible season Brett would have. Those records we mentioned that he was close to breaking, well, he broke those and many more. He also achieved another incredible accomplishment that very few people saw coming: he brought his beloved Green Bay Packers all the way to the NFC Championship game.

Through his 17 seasons, Favre’s pure joy in simply playing the game shone through again and again. Now that he’s retiring, we’ll miss Brett. There will never be another quite like him!

Monday Night Football Prediction – Packers vs. Broncos

The Green Bay Packers visit the Denver Broncos for this week’s Monday Night Football.

Brett Favre is looking like his old self this year, leading the Packers to a 5 – 1 record.

The Broncos are struggling a bit behind the arm of Jay Cutler, with a record of 3 – 3.

My (5 – 4) prediction goes to the Green Bay Packers for the win, though there may be some interceptions made by each defense. Lori (5 – 4), Chase (4 – 5) are also thinking Brett Favre will pull out the victory in prime time.

Way to go Brett! New Career Touchdown Passes Leader

Brett Favre, one of my favorite football players to watch, became the NFL leader in career touchdown passes on Sunday. Brett threw for his 421st touchdown in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Vikings, passing Dan Marino for the record.

My personal favorite scene in the celebration that took place after the touchdown was when Favre picked up his receiver, Greg Jennings, and carried him on his shoulder. Even the Minnesota home crowd had to love watching that picture of pure joy.

Even better for Brett is that fact that the Packers are 4-0 and one of only two undefeated teams in the NFC. If you’re keeping track, that’s 8 wins in a row dating back to the end of last season.

If you’re a Brett Favre fan too and are looking for a great way to commemorate this record-breaking season for him, check out our Brett Favre merchandise.

Brett Favre: For the Love of the Game

Are there athletes that you just love to watch because of the pure joy they show while playing? You know for them it’s not about the money or fame. They just love what they do and would be on that field or court even if no one was watching.

One man that epitomizes that attitude to me is the Green Bay Packers’ QB Brett Favre. Even at the ripe old age of 37, Favre still looks like a kid playing ball on the playground. There’s no doubt when you watch him play that he is having fun. And as the NFL’s only 3-time MVP, it’s obvious that his love for the game has led to some pretty amazing seasons.

Favre’s 17th NFL season will definitely be one to watch as he pursues several NFL records. He only needs 7 touchdown passes to pass Dan Marino as the player with the most career touchdown passes. Only 2 more career wins will place him at the top of the list over John Elway for career wins as a starting quarterback.

If you’re a Brett Favre fan like me, be sure and check out our Brett Favre banner and Brett Favre wall clock on MySportsDecor.com. Coming soon to the site will be a Brett Favre mini-helmet and Brett Favre waste basket.
